To be, or not to be….
That was the question Hamlet famously pondered in Shakespeare's renowned play. The question discussed during this
staged trial embodies that philosophical conundrum, and also delves into the legal issues of the troubled Prince's actions.
Can Hamlet be held criminally responsible for the murder of Polonius?
In 1995, the original one-act version of Hamlet on Trial was written by Elizabeth Falk, New York
Director, for a fundraising gala for the benefit of, and at the behest of Shakespeare's Globe London, where she was the first woman ever to direct. Elizabeth went on to
direct a further three productions in 1997, 2000 and 2003.
